Back in the saddle
Well, well, well- I came back. I wasn't sure I would but then I couldn't get signed up for the classes that I wanted. I'm going to have to shoot for spring semester now. I found out I'm going to have to take more classes than I thought too; I've been out of college for more than ten years so I have to retake some.
Home was nice if somewhat hurried. I missed catching up with a couple of people including my old training director (Doug I'll catch up with you when I get back- I owe you a steak dinner at the least). It was good to see the family- good job on loosing weight.
It was kind of strange being free to do whatever I wanted- I got up when I wanted to, went running and then went to Starbucks. I also went mountain biking (I was actually in the mountains too ). I managed to wipe out a couple of times including a slow speed endo and a helmet plant into a tree where I managed to break my watch band and thought I had broken my wrist. The weather was alternately hot and humid or drizzling, there were stream crossing, the trail was slick as it could be with lots of roots and rocks and the uphill was killer- basically it was an awesome trip! It had all of the elements you could want in a ride basically followed by pizza at Mellow Mushroom. I also fell in love with my brother’s bike- I’m trying to rationalize buying one but damn it’s expensive.
Coming back was a bit like being released from prison and then thrown back in- with more silly rules each time. That’s alright, this is short term and then I’m out of here for good!

Roberto,
Good to see that your writing again. I finally come to a country where I can actually look at your site and you stopped right after I arrived. Well, I'll only be able to check it out for another 5 weeks and then I'm headed back to China, where you are obviously a threat to national security? I never figured out why I can't access it from there. Oh well. Peace.

Funny you should ask about photos- Coming down the main downhill section I stopped just before some steps and my brother was kneeling at the bottom with my camera waiting to get what he was sure was my impending wipeout on film. Had I ridden the trail before and knew what was coming up I would probably either ridden it out or just hucked it (it was about seven or eight vertical feet)- for those of you wondering, "hucking" is a term for catching big air launching yourself off something higher than you really should if you had any sense.
The trails were really slick and my hardtail was bouncing pretty hard so I figured I'd better play things safe. I hadn't ridden in over a year and if I broke something I wouldn't have been able to come back over here (yeah- rolling eyes).
I can't wait to ride it again though!
