End of contract- yeah!!!
Well today was the last day of my contract- I’ve been overseas for a year now. It’s an open contract so I could have left whenever, but that would have been like giving up. I needed to prove I could do it I guess. I’ve learned a lot in the time I’ve been here, both about myself and about life in general. Some of it has been good, some of it bad, but it’s all reality.
I’m hoping and planning to start PA school next year. I’m too old to go to medical school (I’m not really that old)- four more years of college plus a residency, no way. Its cost me a hell of a lot to realize that this is the direction I should have been heading in all along, but I feel like a burden has been lifted off my shoulders since I feel I have a positive direction now. Silly I know, but whatever, I’m comfortable with the decision, I just wish I had come to it a lot sooner.

A PA is a Physician's Assistant, kind of like a registered nurse but with a little broader scope of practice. I just don't want to put myself through four more years of college (PA school is two years). I've ben out of college for a few years now so going back is going to be rough enough not to mention the costs of going to medical school is sky high. Admissions requirements are higher for medical school and I'm scared I would have to go back and pick up a few classes before I could get in.
I could always change my mind, but this decision seems to fit me well and I'm comfortable with it.

Does that mean you were doing something other than medicine before?

I did veterinary work for about five years when I was in high school till after I graduated college. I did environmental work for a few years and I've been a paramedic for over eleven years now.
