Clarification on an earlier post

Ok, lets bring this up one more time. I'm not opposed to charity and I'm not opposed to the government helping people, I am opposed to the government helping people to get right back into the same situation they were in.
In two hundred years, America rose up to become the most powerful nation the world has ever known. More advances in technology came in the last hundred years than in most of recorded history combined. America was the driving force behind this because it's people had a "Can do" attitude and truly wanted to prove that, as a melting pot of people and ideas, we could outstrip the world in anything we endeavoured to. We didn't do all of this by accepting limitations on ourselves or continually making the same mistakes, but by striving to improve ourselves.
There's a story about the Soviets sending the US a tiny drill bit to show how precise they could manufacture goods. The story goes that we drilled a hole in it and sent it back.
It is only through our continually challenging ourselves that we get better. In order to be in a position to do this, we have to first take responsibility for our own lives. One of the first steps in this process is a reduction of personal debt and an increase in savings. Forbes and others have noted that most Americans live paycheck to paycheck with little to no savings. This is being proven in Florida right now as people line up for unemployment.
I don't claim to be financially knowledgeable or to have all of the answers, but there is a wealth of information out there for the asking. Instead of vegging on the couch and watching sports, soap operas, or other brainless drivel- advance yourself. Study. Take charge of your own life! Take pride in our country and make it the land that everyone is envious of and wants to become a part of.
Enough preaching.
