Your friendly neighborhood arms dealer
Last evening some of the soldiers found an ammo cache and decided to blow it up in place. This is a pretty normal occurrence in Iraq, except that this one happened to be close to us- in fact it was literally across the street and down a few blocks. It was a nice show though with lots of small arms rounds cooking off interspersed with the booming explosions of what where probably mortar shells. Visual effects were added when the rounds would go shooting up in the air.
It's a bit discomforting to know that the bad guys had that much ordinance stored in our neighborhood, but it won't be doing anybody any good now.
On a disappointing note, the atmosphere of the camp seems to be changing. We had some growing pains in the past, but this is different. The camp has almost doubled in size since I got here and lately the new arrivals have had different attitudes. With more people, I suppose that people feel like they have more of a choice in who they hang out with. This in and of itself isn't bad, but they are bringing a Stateside attitude with them. We are still a small camp and we need to be able to work closely together. Getting your underwear in a wad over little stuff is not only stupid, it's not conducive to a productive workplace. This, after all, still a construction site, military base, and a war zone. I think a lot of these new people have forgotten this or just never realized it.
On the bright side, it's a beautiful day out with pleasant temperatures and I ran four miles this morning. :)
